History

It was in 1909 that a fishing contest was held, and so the Waddington Fish and Game Club was established.

In the early days of the club; they had sponsored many “ vermin drives” – these were 30 day hunts for various vermin. In those days, vermin were – woodchucks, red squirrels, starlings and crows. There were points for each species and at the end of the 30 days; there was a dinner and prizes were awarded. They also had fishing derbies for each specific species of fish, again followed by dinner and prizes.

In April 1972 – a pancake breakfast was held to raise funds for developing land for the use of local sportsman, remodelling and furnishing the existing building to make it into a club house and meeting room.

Many articles are found on the Northern Historical Newspaper web site.

Today’s club house is located on the Hardscrabble road and was built in the early 1990’s.

Today’s club has blackpowder events twice yearly and is trying to get back into other activities like it did in the past. These events included the children’s fishing derby, expo exhibits, and craft sale to mention a few.
